FHS Athletic Wall of Champions
Dinner set for October 11th

The 11th annual Fresno High Alumni Wall of Champions Dinner will be held Wednesday October 11th at 7 PM at the Pardini’s Banquet Hall in Fresno.

The annual fall fundraiser contributes to the FHS Alumni Association’s overall effort to support both athletic and academic activities at Fresno High throughout the year.

This year’s dinner will honor 9 individual athletes,1 coach and the 1960 basketball team.

The inductees are:

Leonard Berry - 1960 Tennis Player- Valley Mixed Double Champion. Distinguished professor of marketing at the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. International expert and author on retail marketing.

Chuck Cobb - 1954 Track & Field/Football- Stanford hurdler, alternate on 1960 US Olympic Team, international developer, business leader and US ambassador to Iceland

Ed Hamlin - 1959 Cross Country- Had the best times on one of the best of coach Bob Fries valley dominant cross country teams of the 50’s and early 60’s.

Ken Jensen - 1961 Multi-Sport -Harry Coffee Athlete of Year award winner. Named All City, League, Valley and Northern California for basketball.

Bill Kendrick - Coach - Football and Tennis coach for a total of 20 total years at Fresno High.

Jeff Beaubier - 1957 Track and Field - Had some of the best middle distance times in school history

Mike Long - 1972 Football- Played both ways on defense and offense on the (11-1) FHS 1971 Valley Championship team

Liz Miles -1973 - Cal Women’s Rowing - Member of 1984 US Olympic Team and the US National team that took 2nd at the 1982 World Championships in Lucerne Switzerland.

Bill Rogers -1951 - Football & Track. Set and still holds the record for the longest run from scrimmage (96 Yards) in Stanford football history

Mike Urrizola -1957- Baseball - Had a 15-0 record on the mound for a 1957 Fresno High baseball team that dominated competition in the San Joaquin Valley.

1960 Varsity Basketball Team - coached by Lee Angelich and led on the court by 1968 US Olympic Volleyball Team member John Alstrom, had a (18-1) season record.

 

Videos about each of the inductees will be shown at the dinner before they are edited into the permanent FHS Athletic Wall of Champions touch screen display at Fresno High. The videos give present and future FHS students the opportunity to see the stories about Fresno High’s greatest athletes,coaches and teams
